This is my first 'clay' paper relief sculpture. I created this at Haystack School of Crafts while studying with Mina Takashira (editor of Hand Papermaking) and Sue Gosin (founder of NYC Dieu Donne paper studios).
I added pigments for the colors and kaolin to the paper pulp. The surface texture was velvety and the damp paper took the folding pressures very nicely. The paper is attached to and dried on a wood frame and wire armature that I sprayed with rust resistant acrylic paint. Working with clay paper is something I would like to pursue more in the future.
The subject of rocks has fascinated me since I was a small child collecting agates and arrow heads on the lake shoreline of Grand Marais, Minnesota.
