Welcome to Christine J. Higgins Fine Art

Dragonfly Studio

The singular thread through my life has been the land.

Inspiration comes from sources such as petroglyphs throughout the Southwest and rural Maine,  gardening , walks in the woods, and the ocean.   The process of creating paper from plant fibers such as cotton, kozo, flax, mitsumata and gampi connects me to my love of earth and water.   Layered surfaces of texture reveal the colors in my work. My subject reflects my solitary, contemplative approach to nature.

I create in an inspiring circular-designed space called Dragonfly Studio.  The  name comes from an experience when I was focused on weeding my garden, paused to stand up, and realized I was surrounded by a field of dragonflies - very welcome companions.

The material I use is archival and has been exhibited throughout central Maine.

(Her work) "is both a vehicle of creative ideas and itself an object of beauty. These fibers dry as intertwined mats, richly textured, and they lend themselves to the complex imagery of her art."

"It is the material, message, and medium."
